    Xignite teams with TIBCO to demo how to simplify the development of web applications

AJAX is gaining ground as a new way of creating web applications. AJAX takes advantage of technology already existing in the browser; thus, eliminating the need for client-side plug-ins, applets, and software installation and maintenance. With AJAX, you can build interactive web applications faster and easier while keeping IT costs down.

Xignite recently partnered with TIBCO to develop a feature rich Web-based mashup application that demonstrates the power of reusing AJAX components and Web services to allow organizations to quickly and easily develop and deploy composite applications. The integrated solution combines TIBCO’s AJAX and Rich Internet Application (RIAs) development framework – TIBCO General Interface – with Xignite’s financial Web services.

The demo, available at tibco.xignite.com, illustrates how for example a day trader could quickly mine through a myriad of securities data to create extensive investment watch list, and view timely news and price charts with drag and drop ease. In addition, it allows users to research securities based on fundamental criteria and characteristics through a single, feature-rich Web page that loads in seconds, but has the look and feel of a desktop application.

In a joint press release, Ram Menon, executive VP of Worldwide Marketing at TIBCO, said, “The collaboration demonstrates a viable approach for dramatically simplifying and accelerating the adoption and use of AJAX and SOA technologies. It is also a perfect example of how we continue to afford businesses the opportunity to see greater efficiencies, cost savings and productivity in real-time.”

Stephane Dubois, CEO of Xignite, also emphasized the benefits of the integrated solution in his comments, “By combining the power and breadth of our Web services with the client functionality of TIBCO General Interface, businesses no longer have to labor over building custom applications from scratch, but can reuse existing components to save time and money.”

    ProfitStars improves loan pricing effectiveness for over 400 financial institutions with Xignite’s interest rate web services

ProfitStars, a division of Jack Henry & Associates (NASDAQ: JKHY), is a leading provider of products and services designed to improve the operating performance of financial institutions. The ProfitStars’ Margin Maximizer Suite provides a loan and deposit pricing solution which helps financial institutions enhance their pricing strategies and profitability. Currently, over 400 financial institutions in the U.S. have deployed the Margin Maximizer Suite in their pricing operations. Since many of the ProfitStars clients are community banks and credit unions who belong to the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) system, they are able to source low-cost funds from their regional FHLBanks in order to promote and support community development and businesses.

It is critical for these financial institutions to obtain accurate daily data on their costs of funds in order to price the various loan products and to achieve the targeted return on equity for each product type. The cost of funds are usually based on key interest rates such as prime rate, LIBOR, treasury yields, and a matrix of cost of fund indices published by the regional FHLBanks. So it is crucial for the financial institutions to get updated interest rates from their pricing software so that they can effectively price their loans for different terms, structures and customer needs.

ProfitStars’ clients previously used a manually intensive process to enter interest rates into their pricing systems. This process was time consuming, prone to errors, and could adversely affect the profitability of the banks. In 2005, ProfitStars decided to add more value to its pricing solutions by automating the process of updating daily interest rates. ProfitStars decided upfront to provide interest rates to its clients via web service, a technology that it could easily integrate in its .NET applications. ProfitStars approached Xignite and requested we added advance rates published by the 11 US regional FHLBanks to our already extensive list of interest rates available on XigniteRates. ProfitStars also evaluated the option of web-scraping interest rates on its own. But it decided against this option due to the cost-effectiveness of Xignite’s solution and the potential distractions from its core business due to maintenance work.

With XigniteRates, ProfitStars clients now have instant access to up-to-date interest rates, including FHLBank advance rates, integrated into their pricing software. For ProfitStars, the benefits of using Xignite’s easy to deploy and integrate-able web services clearly outweighed the development and maintenance costs of providing the data on its own.

    Did you know that you could easily add moving average times series to your existing historical charts? Nothing could be easier to do.
For instance, the following VB.NET code:

  Dim objChartService As New RemoteChart.XigniteChart()
Dim objChart As Xignite.
WebServices.HistoricalChart = objChartService.
DrawHistoricalChartPresetByDate
(“GOOG”, Symbol, "", “4/26/2006”,”4/25/2007” ,
Line, 200, 150,”NewsLetter”)

Will return the following picture:

By simply adding #SMA50 and #SMA200 as additional symbols to the request, we get the 2 moving averages we are looking for:

  Dim objChart As Xignite.WebServices.
HistoricalChart = objChartService.
DrawHistoricalChartPresetByDate
(“GOOG”, Symbol, "#SMA200,#SMA50", “4/26/2006”,”4/25/2007” , Line, 200, 150,”NewsLetter”)

It’s that easy.
